OUR PROPOSALS FOR PHASE II OF THE GOBBINS

Phase II aims to complete the journey (effectively closing the loop) by adding a daring new stairway down the 60m cliff face, inspired by the original Gobbins’ innovative design.

OUR PROPOSALS

Phase II aims to complete the journey (closing the loop) by adding a daring new stairway down the 60m cliff face, inspired by the original Gobbins’ innovative design.

This phase will deliver five specific interventions:

A 60m High Stairway Access – Providing a dramatic new access point from the Welcome Hub to the existing Gobbins cliff base path below..

A New Welcome Hub – Offering a landing point for visitors travelling from the existing Visitor Centre, alongside additional visitor amenities

An Enhanced Extended Reality Experience – A new attraction at the existing Visitor Centre, making The Gobbins accessible to more people.

Cliff Top Path Upgrades – Improving the cliff top path to further enhance the user experience.

Expanded Visitor Facilities – Creating new associated access and onsite parking infrastructure at The Gobbins Visitor Centre to accommodate potential additional visitors.

KEY BENEFITS OF THE GOBBINS PHASE II DEVELOPMENT

A NEW ERA FOR THE GOBBINS

The new cliffside Welcome Hub will provide breathtaking viewpoints and improved access to the cliffside walk by means of a dramatic new ingress structure – making the journey even more unforgettable.

A TAILORED AND ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS DESIGN APPROACH

The facility aims to incorporate recyclable materials, flexible spaces, and energy-efficient technologies such as solar panels and mixed-mode ventilation. This commitment aligns with broader environmental goals, further reducing the overall long-term ecological impact.

A TRANSFORMATIONAL INVESTMENT

  • The Belfast Region City Deal (BRCD) is a major investment initiative designed to boost the local economy, create jobs, and drive tourism growth.

  • It focuses on three key goals: attracting investment, generating new employment opportunities, and accelerating inclusive economic development.

  • Aligned with these ambitions, The Gobbins Phase II scheme ensure the attraction evolves into a world-class visitor attraction. This investment will enhance the experience for visitors and strengthen Northern Ireland’s position as a must-visit destination.
